How the Discoveries Paintings Emerged?

In 2018, while doing an independent work at SDSU, School of Art and Design, Ezra Bejar held a conversation with his art professor who transformed his artistic lens to incorporate his scientific work of 30 years.
“There is no doubt, after creating the first piece entitled The Quest, I felt freer and able to access a richer mental landscape. A mindscape where color, textures, light and shadows coexisted with the diaspora, the chemistry, the ingredients, and the culture, "adds Ezra.

Why Paintings out of a Test Tube?

His paintings incorporate Ezra's experience working as a scientist looking at organisms in the microscope and as an expert in Latin American botanical medicine. They depict hidden cities and ingredients from the rainforest extracted in the lab to analyze how they work. Ezra has spent a life time elucidating herbal remedies and looking what chemicals are there and how this beverages are used by ancient cultures.

The Discoveries

Art is a great approach to know about the world. Ezra Bejar

" I am a curious person by nature, so painting has given me another approach in my inquiry, besides doing experiments in the lab. In art, I can solve the mystery of a hidden city or screen a new site with hundreds of plants in a few days. After making/exhibiting three pieces with Professor Castro at SDSU, an expanded "Discoveries" collection made a lot of sense" says Ezra

"I am enthusiastic to share these during the Library’s upcoming Summer Learning program with young kids. The library staff is feeding young people, creating community activities and instilling a passion for nature, science, and art," adds EB. "I'm very grateful to the Casa de Oro library for sharing these activities and a large wall space for this exhibit. It will be in my neighborhood for a full semester from July 1 - December 31, 2019. I hope to walk after the installation and spend some time with my neighbors observing the paintings on the wall, and turning to the bookshelves to check out books and find answers," ends Ezra.
