Hours: Mon & Wed 9:30 AM - 6 PM, Tue & Thu 9:30 AM – 8 PM, and Fri & Sat 9:30 AM – 5 PM. Exhibit reception: July 18, 5:30-7:30 PM.

How the Discoveries Paintings Emerged?

Ezra's scientific work of 30 years, looking at herbs and documenting ancient traditions from Latin America, was brought in to this collection. A conversation with his colleague Carlos Castro at SDSU provided clearer focus in the direction of his creative process and the best approach to make it work.
“There is no doubt, after creating the first piece entitled The Quest, and discussing it with Carlos, I had a clearer understanding. I felt I was able to access a mindscape were color, forms and rich textures in plants, lights and shadows in ecosystems, and the science, the history and the culture, were all in sync," adds Ezra.

Why Paintings out of a Test Tube?

Ezra's multilayered expressionistic art style emerges as it were originated from organisms in the microscope and the sap of exotic plants described by healers. The Discoveries depict colorful insects, plants, hidden cities and ingredients from the rainforest. Herbs extracted in the lab to discover new molecules and to explain how they are used by ancient cultures. Ten paintings on the exhibit (oil, acrylic, mix media and collages) are shown below:

The Discoveries

Art is a great approach to know about the world. Ezra Bejar

" I am a curious person by nature, so painting gives me another approach in my inquiry, besides doing experiments in the lab. In art, I can solve the mystery of a hidden city or screen a new site with hundreds of plants in a few days."

"I am enthusiastic to share my art work during the Library’s upcoming Summer Learning program with young kids. The library staff is feeding young people, creating community activities and instilling a passion for nature, science, and art," adds EB. "I'm very grateful to the Casa de Oro library for sharing these activities and a large wall space for this exhibit. It will be in my neighborhood for a full semester from July 1 - December 31, 2019. I hope to walk after the installation and spend some time with my neighbors observing the paintings on the wall, and turning to the bookshelves to check out books and find additional answers," ends Ezra.
